Divine encounters in Phnom Penh
Hello again, lovely readers! In a last-minute change of plans, we hopped onto a flight to Phnom Penh to meet Sovanvotey Hok of Green Lady Cambodia, the first social enterprise in Cambodia to offer reusable sanitary pads made from locally sourced cotton. In addition to providing safer menstrual products, Sovanvotey and her team coordinate young people on SRHR topics, and facilitate menstruation classrooms with sewing workshops for girls and women.
I initiated this social enterprise to provide sustainable choices for women while knowing clearly that this product will help reduce plastic waste, [however] my biggest motivation for the startup is my empathy for women as an advocate and feminist. Girls and women, not just in Asia but in other places, are told how to behave, to hide or to be ashamed of their own natural identity. -Sovanvotey Hok, Green Lady Cambodia
We share Sovanvotey’s passion and can’t wait to work with her on this project!
We also had the pleasure of meeting Sotheavy At of Think Plastic, a brilliant social media campaign designed to raise awareness of the dangers of plastic pollution in Cambodia. Started in 2019, Think Plastic now has over 128,000 followers and features more than 100 informative videos. We also look forward to working with Sotheavy on this project!
Time really does fly when you’re working hard and having fun! x
